Anatomic & Clinical Pathology 

Dr. Baila received his medical degree from Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Following his graduation, he continued his medical training in Rome, Italy, where he earned his medical diploma from Tor Vergata University.

After six years in Italy, Dr. Baila relocated to Chicago to complete his Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency at the University of Illinois, where he served as Chief Resident in his final year. He then pursued a Surgical Pathology Fellowship at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, with a specialized focus on gastrointestinal and liver pathology.

Upon completing his fellowship, Dr. Baila joined Loyola University’s Department of Pathology as an Assistant Professor, where he was actively involved in surgical pathology and resident education. In 2007, he transitioned to private practice, joining Tazewell Pathology Group in Peoria, where he dedicated 18 years to diagnostic excellence in pathology. During his tenure, he also taught several courses in gastrointestinal pathology at the University of Illinois Peoria campus, further contributing to medical education and training.

Dr. Baila has a deep passion for gastrointestinal pathology, bringing years of expertise and dedication to his work. He is fluent in Romanian and Italian and enjoys traveling, hiking, skiing, playing tennis, and exploring the outdoors in his free time.
