RICHARD E. WHISNANT, MD

Dr. Whisnant earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Princeton University and his medical degree from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He has Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology subspecialty board certifications, having completed AP/CP Pathology residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Cytopathology/Surgical Pathology fellowship training at University of Virginia Medical Center.

Immediately prior to joining Naples Pathology Associates, Dr. Whisnant served as the Department Chair and Medical Director of Pathology and Lab Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach, FL. In addition to cytopathology, he has a particular longstanding interest and experience in breast pathology, having sole authored a recent peer reviewed publication detailing a novel machine learning approach to breast predictive testing quality assurance (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jpi.2022.100005). Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their five children, travel, hiking, and chess.
